Creative Writers’ Community Lab
Grow your writing practice.
De-corporatize your creativity.
Engage, experiment, learn, and play.
Find a community. Make some friends.
Creativity makes our lives more joyful, expansive, and fully our own. But creative practice has a lot to compete with: our jobs, our relationships, the mental load of adult life, and a culture that values productivity over play. And if we’re being honest, insecurity can creep in there too.
My 15-year career as a writer, editor, and coach has made me an “expert” at mentoring other writers, but in my own creative practice I’m a student first - a person who needs to explore, experiment, and share in order to grow. Navigating this balance can be tricky, and in the process I’ve learned something crucial: the only way to do it is to keep showing up.
I founded Creative Writers’ Community Lab because showing up to the page is easier, more fun, and much more sustainable when you have a space for inspiration and accountability, and like-hearted peers who you can talk with and learn from.
CWCL welcomes writers of all levels and genres. We meet bimonthly to discuss creative process and craft, do generative writing exercises, and share our work. In the meantime, we keep in touch through a community Discord server. You also have the option to work with me 1:1 if you’re looking for extra support.
So no more you, alone with that blank white space, wondering what the hell to do and how to get yourself to do it. You’ll create a practice you can sustain - and that sustains you.
Who is Creative Writers’ Community Lab for?
CWCL is for anyone who wants to explore and develop a regular writing practice:
Maybe you’re a devoted journal-keeper and want a friendly environment where you can explore your writing with a bit more structure and intention.
Maybe you feel like your corporate gig is turning your brain into ChatGPT, and you miss having a creative practice that is for you - your pleasure, your curiosity, and your weird and wonderful sensibilities.
Maybe you used to write quite seriously but life has been pulling you in other directions, and you need a supportive push to jump back in.
Maybe you dream of submitting your poems for publication, or writing a memoir or a novel someday, but need a foundational practice to get to a place where that feels possible.
Or maybe you just really like to write, and want to hang out with a bunch of interesting and thoughtful people who also like to write, while learning some things.
What will we do?
Every month I lead two 60-75min Zoom sessions built around discussion, generative writing exercises, and the option to share work for kind and constructive peer feedback. Some discussions are be built around short reading “assignments,” but whether you do them in advance is entirely up to you!
Members are encouraged to submit questions, discussion topics, and suggestions if there’s something they’d like to see in a future session.
Group sessions are generally held the first Sunday and third Tuesday of the month, at 8pm CET (2pm EST / 11am PST). Occasional scheduling changes will be communicated in advance.
All group members also have access to a community Discord where I post announcements and materials, and members can connect with each other (and me!) to exchange work, set co-writing sessions or accountability check-ins, ask questions, submit suggestions, or just chat!
Members who want personalized mentorship and more intensive feedback can work with me 1:1*, by purchasing single 45-min private sessions or bundling monthly sessions into their membership at a discount.
*If you’re specifically looking for 1:1 support to write a book, that would be better served by a book coaching package. Either on top of or instead of CWCL membership. We can talk about it!
